Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is reportedly developing an audit and certification program for print centers in New York and the rest of the US.
According to What They Think, while there is already an audit which ensures European printers are complying with quality color printing standards, one does not exist in North America.
As a result, the RIT is keen to develop a similar practice to ensure US print centers meet international color printing standards.
Robert Chung, Gravure research professor in RIT's School of Print Media, said: "Industry leaders in the printing area have been asking us to take the lead on becoming a certification body due to the lack of any rigorous, third-party assessment in North America."
RIT is to first conduct research before presenting its findings at its annual meeting later this year.
Commenting on the news, Chuck Koehler, color expert at Heidelberg USA, said this is the perfect time to offer such a program to the printing industry.
RIT is a leader in professional and career-oriented education, attracting students from 50 states and over 95 countries.
