Could internet aid green printing?

When they print brochures, flyers or other promotional material, organizations may wish to direct the reader towards online content which provides further information in order to keep their use of paper low.
Executive Headhunters, an international generalist headhunting group, has revealed using an online brochure system can help to boost environmental credentials, leading it to adopt such a process itself.
Boosh Articles reports that research by the group has revealed that when people print off an online brochure, much of the information it contains is not of interest to them.
Indeed, the typical reader would keep one or two pages they deemed to be important and throw the rest of the document away.
To alleviate this waste, Executive Headhunters has developed a segmented online brochure, meaning only the content which is of interest to the reader needs to be printed.
Phil Sharp, managing director of the group, said this system could help to reduce waste by as much as 80 percent.
Some businesses may still wish to print brochures to pass on to potential customers, however, they could choose to design a slimmer document which only includes essential data.
In addition to this, they could create more in-depth online content to couple with the brochures, meaning that recipients can find out more on screen, with the knowledge they have a hard copy of the most important facts.
When they print business cards, firms may also wish to include links to online content such as social networking pages, which Patricia Odell, in an article for Promo, said could help attract more customers.
