Green printing and improving the environmental performance of the office in general could help businesses increase their profits, it has been claimed.
Nitin Hiranandani, director of the Managed Enterprise Services, Imaging and Printing Group at HP India, writes in an article for Express Computer that going green can be a profitable move.
He explains that correctly analyzing, deploying and maintaining the office print and image environment could see firms reducing their costs by 30 percent.
One of the first steps towards green printing companies should take is to boost their energy efficiency, he suggests, such as by implementing the printer's sleep mode to conserve power.
Reducing paper consumption, such as by making duplex printing the default, is also advisable and could lead to significant cost savings.
Meanwhile, Mr Hiranandani recommends businesses should remember to recycle their paper and printer hardware such as ink cartridges.
"This ensures that returned products are recycled properly, diverting millions of tons of waste from landfills," he adds.
Taking advantage of professional printers, such as printing services in New Jersey, may be advisable as such firms are less likely to make mistakes which could lead to increased waste.
Congressman Chris Lee recently introduced a bill he calls the Stop the Over Printing Act, which aims to encourage government workers to reduce the number of bills they print.
